BACHARENGUE JAM
@ Sheppard Station, Friday, Nov.29th
I am enjoying a hot coffee with my amigo Kico ”El Gato”
on this cold snowy November night. We spoke about the up
coming Bacharengue Jam to be held at the Sheppard Station
Nite Club on Friday November 29th.
KU: What’s the idea with an all Merengue-Bachata
party?
KICO: To close the year I thought of having all
Merengue-Bachata bands performing side-by-side sharing the
same stage and jamming together.
KU: What about the Sheppard Station Nite Club?
KICO: The idea is also to promote this existing
venue, whose ownership wanted to do a Latin Night. The club
is equipped with a stage, Laser lights, and ample room for
seating and restaurant services. Since September 27, 2002
they have been offering Latin Fridays, and this night has
become a popular one with the north of the city residents
who enjoy the music of DJ Victor “Explosivo” with myself
Kico “El Gato” as emcee.
KU: Who owns the Sheppard Station Nite Club?
KICO: Mr. Peter Rampersaud, originally from British
Guyana, has opened his arms to welcome the Latin community
to be part of his programming by supporting events and
hosting activities from within our community.
KU: Who else is contributing to this event?
Kico: I would like to thank all the sponsors among
them we have: Picante Xpress, The Friendly Dominican
Restaurant, Rincon Hispano, La Pupusa Loca, Coconuts
Travel, Hairs De Groove, Don Ramon Hernandez and The Latino
Communication Service. They all have committed their time
and sponsorship monies to make this night a reality.
KU: Tell us about the bands that will be performing
on November 29, 2002?
Kico: This night will mark the return of “El Niño
Malo” Anthony V, who has been absent from the local scene
for over a year. Now he is bringing a new production of
Bachata and romantic ballads as well as the traditional
merengue. It will also feature “Dominicanada”, who have
been playing lately in the U.S. Market, touring some of the
big time cities south of the border. This party will not be
complete without the presence of los chinos “Banda Bella”,
whose high energy and well-done choreographies have been a
part of almost all festivals this past year. “Carlos Cruz”
and “Los Humildes de la Bachata” will also take part in
this event. This band has been enjoying great success
throughout the year and has become one of the most sought
after group of performers in the G.T.A. “Leo Collado” a
former “Humildes de la Bachata” player and “DM2” will
compliment the above bands with their particular rhythms
making this an incredible night for those Bachata and
Merengue lovers.
